A Message to Our Community
Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ ongoing commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Back in June, the Leadership Team at Lovin’ Spoonfuls offered this statement of support and solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, and with our communities of color. As we approach another change of the seasons, we remain committed to supporting and advocating for justice, for peace, and for social equity.
While our primary purpose is, and will continue to be, food rescue – we are all conscious of, inspired by, and galvanized by our individual and collective efforts for social justice.
Lovin’ Spoonfuls began intentional work around DEI in 2018, and in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, we have prioritized our commitment to it. Over the last six months we have engaged in workshops and sessions focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – and have made a pledge to incorporate those tenets with specific actions in our workplace. They are:
Representation:
We commit to intentionally broadening our representation at all levels of the organization. We will purposefully recruit, seek and engage BIPOC representation through mentorship and consult, specifically within our:
Internal Leadership
Board of Directors
Culinary Board
Friends Advisory Board
Recruitment:
We commit to broadening our visibility into diverse communities to ensure fair and equitable access to candidates from underrepresented populations, job postings, and organizational opportunities.
Education & Support:
Lovin’ Spoonfuls commits to deepening this work in perpetuity. We will continue to provide required sessions, trainings and workshops with professional DEI consultants and firms to ensure intentional, open, and transparent efforts for a safe and inclusive workplace to enable cultural progression within Lovin’ Spoonfuls. Perhaps most importantly, we will continue to listen and provide space for voices to be heard.
All team members have access to wellness resources through our partner, Insperity, including specifically tailored mental health resources.
Culture:
Lovin’ Spoonfuls is proud of our Core Values, Bill of Rights, and internal commitment to all team members, Board of Directors, and ancillary board members, and to our external partners. We commit to evolving our workplace to maintain a safe and inclusive environment, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We also support our employees in their individual efforts outside of the workplace as it relates to social change and social justice initiatives.
I wrote then and again here now – it’s not enough to wish for a peaceful future, we must demand it. Let’s listen, let’s advocate, and let’s keep each other safe.
In solidarity,
Ashley, Lauren, Erin, Joni & Sean
