Fun, family-friendly opportunities to #StrikeFoodWaste now

August 31, 2020 Updated: February 2, 2024

This September, we’re launching a five-week campaign aimed at raising awareness about wasted food and its impact on people and planet. We’re also rolling out some new resources to make taking action on the issue fun and accessible for everyone inspired to help.

For parents, teachers, and youth leaders, there’s a primer with the latest information on the issue and a list of ideas you can try, together with the kids and teens you know. Download it here.

And don’t miss…

The #StrikeFoodWaste (Virtual) Art Show – Calling all young (and young at heart!) creatives to picture what happens when food is rescued rather than wasted! Prizes for the three young people whose art we’ll feature as upcoming cover photos on our social sites. Full details. Deadline for submissions: September 30, 2020.

Lovin’ Pantry Challenge – Did you know that households contribute between 40-50% of all food wasted in the United States? We buy more than we’re prepared to eat. It expires (or we think it has) and then we throw it out. We challenge you to make a creative meal of what you have in your fridge or pantry right now – before it goes to waste. Take a picture of it (or take a picture of yourself or your family eating what you’ve made) and share it on social. Tag Lovin’ Spoonfuls (@lovinspoonfuls on Facebook and Instagram and @lovinfoodrescue on Twitter). Use #StrikeFoodWaste. We might feature your meal masterpiece on our social sites!
