Just the Facts: With Lisa Day
Lisa Day has been one of our Greater Boston Food Rescue Coordinators for two years now. Every weekday, she drives Sophia (the truck pictured here) to rescue food and distribute it to people facing food insecurity. Recently, Lisa blew us away when she rescued this $255 Wagyu Steak.
Operations Director, Sean Ahern, says “When making weekly deliveries, Lisa always keeps the needs and preferences of her partners top of mind. These could be things like a partner not wanting pork products, keeping quick grab-and-go meals for recovery homes where the residents don’t have much capacity to cook, or knowing a family at a partner is gluten-free. These seemingly small steps make a huge difference in the efficacy and dignity of the deliveries!”
In her own words, here are a few things you should know about Lisa:
1. She started at Spoonfuls in June of 2019 and currently operates our southernmost route in the Greater Boston area.
2. She bikes everywhere, even in winter.
3. In her own words: “I love finding different ways to use/reuse food scraps. I’ve used them in cooking, as fertilizers for the garden, dyes for clothes… There’s so much you can do with scraps!” Yes!
