Lens on Leadership: With Monee Vance

December 20, 2021 Updated: May 21, 2025

From our Board of Directors and Culinary Panel, to our Friends Advisory Board and Community Advisory Boards (CABs), we’re fortunate to count so many strong leaders among our lot! Every month, we introduce you to one of them.

This month, it’s Monee Vance: Member of Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ Greater Boston Community Advisory Board and the Assistant Manager of Match Support at Big Sister.

How did you first get introduced to Lovin’ Spoonfuls?

u003cmeta charset=u0022utf-8u0022/u003eMy former employer, ABCD, to whom Spoonfuls’ delivered some of their rescued food.

u003cmeta charset=u0022utf-8u0022/u003eWhat is it about Lovin’ Spoonfuls and/or the issue of wasted food that speaks to you personally or professionally?

u003cmeta charset=u0022utf-8u0022/u003eIt was not until I was introduced to Lovin’ Spoonfuls that I began to think about myself and my own waste. I also became an advocate for food access, justice, and freedom.

u003cmeta charset=u0022utf-8u0022/u003eAs a CAB member, what made you want to join your community’s CAB?

u003cmeta charset=u0022utf-8u0022/u003eI wanted to join the CAB community because I was coaxed by u003ca href=u0022https://spoonfuls.org/who-we-are/team-lovin/u0022u003eLauren Palumbou003c/au003e. Kidding! I wanted to join because I knew it was important to have a group of individuals discussing issues around food access and its relation to food waste.

u003cmeta charset=u0022utf-8u0022/u003eWhat are ways you work to waste less food, either at home or in the workplace?

u003cmeta charset=u0022utf-8u0022/u003eI do my best by not buying things I will not eat. I also do my best to purchase items that have less packaging or packaging that is recyclable. At work, I do my best to convince my coworkers to do the same.
