Off the Road with Chris Ramos-Hernandez
Get to know one of our Operations Managers, Chris Ramos-Hernandez, in this Q&A.
I’ve been an Operations Manager at Lovin’ Spoonfuls for over a year now.
My job is to help make sure our operations are running as smoothly as possible by managing a team of Food Rescue Coordinators (FRCs) and keeping our trucks up-to-date on their maintenance. Not every day is the same routine, though! I am always ready to adapt in the case of unexpected partner closures or even going on the road to help an FRC. These efforts support FRCs’ work picking up fresh, healthy food at vendors and delivering it same-day to our beneficiaries.
The most gratifying part of my job is that I’m helping to make a difference in someone’s life that’s part of the community I grew up in. Knowing that someone was able to get food to feed themselves and their family makes everyday rewarding.
One is Barbara at CASPAR. She’s always super excited to see our trucks arrive and the food we have for her organization. She always makes time to chat with whoever is dropping off the food, too. She tells us about what she’s planning to make for the day, how much of an impact the food we bring has, about life in general, like how her kids and grandchildren are doing, and gives a little bit of life advice.
I think I’d still be in my previous job as a Department Manager [in a grocery chain] with intent to move up in the company. I’ve always loved learning as much as I can and taking on new challenges.
Have a backup plan if I do overcook. For example, it could be taco night and there might be leftover ground beef. The following day, I would make some pasta and add the ground beef so it doesn’t go to waste.
I’m a huge Star Wars™ fan from movies to books to video games.
