Welcome, Erin!
How did you arrive at Lovin’ Spoonfuls?
I have been a fundraiser for the past 13 years and have had the pleasure of working with a diverse sector of nonprofits in the Greater Boston area. When I came across the opportunity to join the Lovin’ Spoonfuls team, it seemed like the perfect intersection of my passions both personally and professionally.
How did you become interested in food rescue?
I had no idea how much food was being wasted across the globe, let alone here in MA. While working for another nonprofit in Boston, I saw firsthand how food insecurity was affecting our community–a devastating reality that you can’t help wanting to change.
What passions do you bring to the job?
I am truly passionate about this city and the communities that I grew up in. I’m excited to be a part of a nonprofit that partners with so many incredible agencies across the state in such a seamless way. I look forward to seeing how these partnerships in our community grow over time, and how I can be helpful in introducing more supporters to our incredible work.
Have there been any surprises for you since joining the team?
My first week at ‘Spoonfuls was spent on the road with the Food Rescue Coordinators (FRCs). I had no idea how personal and thoughtful their roles would be. Each FRC is so incredibly dedicated to their route and beneficiaries; it was a joy to see firsthand.
Do your friends and family consider you a good cook? Any signature recipes?
I grew up with some incredible cooks, so when I am with family I usually get to take a backseat in the kitchen. When I do cook for others, I tend to make a lot of Mexican inspired dishes. Tacos with fresh salsas and guac are my usual default.
What would we find in your refrigerator right now?
Copious amounts of cheese (brie and blue are my favorite) and a lot of seltzer water.
What’s your favorite childhood food memory?
When I was about 8, my parents took over an Italian catering company in the suburbs of Boston. I vividly remember helping them in the kitchen (or so I thought I was being helpful) and joining them on deliveries. It was always so much fun for my sister and me … and we got to be the taste testers for most of the recipes.
Who are your heroes?
It sounds cliche, but my Mom and Dad. They are truly inspiring and continue to teach me so much.
