Feeding Boston, Changing the World
On March 10, Oxfam America and the Boston Oxfam Action Corps presented “Feeding Boston, Changing the World” at Northeastern University. Held in celebration of International Women’s Day, the event honored women who are making an impact on the way we grow, eat, and share food. The event featured a keynote speech from Anna Oloshuro Kalaita, a Maasai farmer from Tanzania who is the winner of Oxfam’s 2011 Global Female Food Heroine competition. Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ Executive Director Ashley Stanley was honored for her work locally, and participated in a panel discussion moderated by Jennifer Hashley, Director of the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project at Tufts University. The panel also included Molly Anderson, Partridge Chair in Food & Sustainable Agriculture Systems at College of the Atlantic; Melanie Hardy, Farm Manager at Land’s Sake Farm; and Keely Curliss, Youth Intern at The Food Project. The panelists had a spirited discussion about reforming our food system, and the consequences of global and local hunger.
