Our COVID Response Continues

As we find ourselves just days away from a new month, I wish you and yours health, safety and the promise that springtime usually offers. While we remain in the midst of COVID-19, I assure you there is hope, optimism and encouragement to be had. As you read on, I hope you share my sense of inspiration. Here at Lovin’ Spoonfuls, I’m incredibly fortunate to see, hear and experience the remarkable stories of humanity at its best, every day.

Our Food Rescue Coordinators continue their work on the front line of our communities’ hunger relief efforts. As Massachusetts sees unprecedented need, we find ourselves in lockstep with unprecedented efforts around the state. In a matter of months, the need in the Commonwealth has gone up almost by almost 400%, and our beneficiaries need us more than ever. As the line that separates those on either side of need becomes razor-thin, we continue to respond. The entire Lovin’ Spoonfuls community – from our team to our Board of Directors to our Friends Advisory Board, our partners and our funders – has done just that.

One our senior FRCs Reggie (who just celebrated his birthday!), made an off-schedule delivery to the Islamic Circle of North America’s emergency pantry. The pantry has taken place over the past few weeks in the parking lot of the Boston mosque, with our deliveries providing fresh produce, to complement meals provided by Community Servings. A member of our Friends Advisory Board, Sarah Andrus, shared her expertise as a dietician and nutritionist on NECN for making food last during the crisis. In Springfield the need continues to rise, and in the MetroWest we continue to work with our expansive network of partners and funders to answer the call.

My team and I continue to assess our response, and adapt as new city, state and federal recommendations are introduced. We remain committed to the health and safety of our employees and our partners. On a personal note, I’ll admit it’s been a long time since I’ve answered the phones here in the office. 1 out of every 3 calls is now from an individual, looking for food. Lovin’ Spoonfuls is committed to being a resource for our community, in every way. Whether it’s helping to navigate the online searches for pantries in someone’s area, helping connect them to Project Bread or just to listen for a moment, we are here. I want to thank my entire team for staying so passionately committed to the mission, whether from their home, their truck, or here in the office.

Join us and be part of the solution.

Please consider supporting our work at a level that’s comfortable for you.

Wishing you health and hope. We’re all in this together.

Very Sincerely,
